What happened on the call

Website's coming together. Topher + Jaime worked the weekend. We're at the CRM-integration decision point.

App1 is the disconnected piece. No feed from App1 into Lightspeed — everything's manual. Sales associates text Eric the deal, he re-keys collateral detail into Lightspeed, enters it in the App1 portal, pulls bureaus, routes to the lender with the fewest stipulations, then manually brings the approval back into Lightspeed on funding.

700 Credit, decoded live. Eric wasn't sure what it did — it's an ID-verification + bureau-pull front end bolted onto App1 (QuickScan mobile doc scanner, OFAC, red-flag/synthetic-ID alerts, credit holds). 700credit.com.

Eric's ramping the backend. Gap insurance, extended warranties — the F&I profit layer he hasn't touched yet.

Blake intro is moving. Eric's sending a virtual intro so Topher works with Blake directly on content + logo assets. Phone: 918-864-5199. (Topher said "Connor" by mistake — it's Blake. Chris, Jeremy's brother, walked past mid-call.)

Next: reconnect on the platform/startup conversation when Topher's back from the Omaha trip.

The live decision — custom CRM vs. integrate Lightspeed

Jeremy signaled Lightspeed is "probably just doing an okay job." That cracked open a real fork, and Topher put it on the table on the call: don't wire up Lightspeed's APIs — build Ugly John's a custom CRM instead. Topher is holding off connecting Lightspeed until this is decided.

Custom CRM — the case

  • • Full control of SMS automations + outreach cadence — not stuck with canned flows.
  • • Build the relationship-feel into the sales process (UJ's whole differentiator).
  • • Replaces the other company's automated-SMS pitch Jeremy referenced, on our terms.
  • • Lines up with the bigger platform vision — one system we own, not a vendor we rent.

What to weigh first

  • • Lightspeed is the system of record for inventory + collateral detail today. A custom CRM still has to read from it.
  • • "Okay job" is Jeremy's read, not a confirmed gap — pressure-test before committing to a rebuild.
  • • Scope creep risk: CRM + App1 + 700Credit + inventory is a lot of surface for Phase 1.
  • • This is an architecture decision that ripples into the platform — make it deliberately.

Aria's read: this is the kind of fork that's cheap to decide wrong by momentum. Worth a deliberate call with Jeremy + Eric on what Lightspeed actually does well before we replace it.

AppOne — integration capability research

appone.net / gateway.app1.net

What it is

  • ▸ Web-based F&I origination platform connecting dealers (auto, marine, RV, powersports) to a lender network — credit-app intake, lender routing, doc prep, e-contracting, funding. ✅ appone.net
  • ▸ Historically a Wolters Kluwer product (all 2012–2015 press is WK-branded). Current site shows no WK branding — possible spin-off/rebrand. ❓ confirm on the sales call.
  • ▸ Marine platform launched ~2012; auto roots older. Portal login lives at gateway.appone.net/dealer/ — a closed dealer/lender portal.
  • ▸ Positioned as the multi-line "RouteOne/DealerTrack for marine" — same F&I-origination job, but its edge is marine/RV/powersports breadth where R1 is auto-dominant. 🔵 Slashdot/6sense

Core capabilities

  • Website credit-app widget — AppOne provides a form you can place on the dealership site for lead-gen/pre-qual. ✅ AppOne blog, Feb 2025 — directly relevant to the new UJ site.
  • ▸ Multi-lender routing — one package, one click, to a national lender network (exact lender count not disclosed). 🔵
  • ▸ e-contracting via F&I Express (added 2015); DocOne document engine for lender-specific packages. 🔵
  • ▸ Aftermarket pricing + booking — real-time service-contract/gap/warranty pricing in the portal, electronic transmission to providers. (this is the backend layer Eric's ramping into.)
  • ▸ Compliance — OFAC, Red Flag, ID verification — delivered via 700Credit, embedded in App1's front end. ✅🔵

🔑 The integration question — what we actually need to know

  • No public or partner API or developer docs are disclosed anywhere. Not the site, not third-party listings. That absence is the finding: integration is partner-gated, not self-serve.
  • ▸ What does exist — bidirectional DMS connectors: F&I staff push a deal from the DMS into App1, gather docs, submit to lender, then pull deals back. Named integrators: EverLogic, IDS/Astra G2 (RV/marine DMS). 🔵
  • ▸ The other sanctioned external touchpoint is the website credit-app widget (intake into App1).
  • ▸ One comparison listing notes App1 shows ~1 integration vs RouteOne's 13 — a thin, partnership-gated catalog. 🔵 Slashdot
  • Pricing model: "pay only for a funded loan" — cost tied to funded deals, no per-seat subscription. No public dollar figures. 🔵 EverLogic

⚓ Verdict for the UJ build

A custom CRM almost certainly cannot push deals into App1 via a clean public API. Three realistic paths:

  1. Use App1's website credit-app widget for customer intake (sanctioned, available now).
  2. Pursue recognized DMS-class integration partner status — gated, requires direct App1 engagement.
  3. Treat App1 as a closed portal F&I works in manually (status quo) and integrate everything around it.

The API feasibility question must go to App1 tech support / sales — the public site does not answer it. That's Topher's open action.

Questions for the App1 tech-support call

  • ▸ Do you offer any API or webhook for a third-party website/CRM to submit applications or pull deal status?
  • ▸ How does a non-DMS partner get whitelisted as an integration — is there a partner program, and what does it require?
  • ▸ What exactly does the website credit-app widget capture, and can leads route into our own CRM as well as App1?
  • ▸ Confirm current ownership (still Wolters Kluwer?) and the 700Credit relationship (bundled vs separate contract).
  • ▸ Confirm the "pay per funded loan" pricing — any per-seat or platform fee underneath it?

Source legend: ✅ AppOne's own site/blog/news · 🔵 named third party (fi-magazine, Wolters Kluwer newsroom, EverLogic, 700Credit, Slashdot) · ❓ inference to verify. The home/solutions pages are a hard SPA that returned empty bodies to both the crawler and WebFetch — detail leans on App1's blog + news + named integrators.

Action items

Sent 6/15 — Blake intro reply (via Outlook): requested a shared-drive path with all video/photo assets + logos. Awaiting Blake. Phone 918-864-5199.

Sent 6/15 — Lightspeed-feedback email to Jason + Eric (via Outlook): use cases today, walk-in flow, what's working, what they wish it did. This is the diligence that decides the fork below — awaiting their reply.

Topher (post-trip): Call App1 tech support with the question list above — settle whether API integration is even on the table.

Topher + Jeremy/Eric: Decide custom-CRM vs Lightspeed once Jason/Eric reply. Lightspeed connect is on hold until then.

Open from 6/12: The Jeremy + Eric + Topher platform-vision call still hasn't happened — reconnect after Omaha.
